1949 MGYT: I have an original 1949 MGYT, a left-hand drive, not a conversion. I’m selling it to help pay for my kids’ college. It’s been in my family since 1986, and it’s heartbreaking to have to give it up. I thought you might be able to offer some advice, so I’m writing to you.
The car needs a wake-up service to get it running this season. It was restored about 10 years ago. I’m only interested in getting it running down the street and back for some photos and videos. I want this to go to a real MG enthusiast, so I’ve been contacting clubs instead of salesmen to see if anyone would be interested. June 1975 rubber-bumper non-running project car: which has been in storage
for a few years. It was our first MGB and we operated it for four years.
Currently an old BRG repaint with the front end from the B-post forward a
slightly darker hue. Interior has newish seat covers, carpets and door panels. The
car has a new Robbins top with zip-out rear window replaced at the same time.
The Engine needs a minimum of new bearing shells as it was running at low 30 -
40 pound pressure. Weber 32/36 downdraft carb with synchro lever. I have no
idea as to cumulative mileage on the car. Sills, rocker and castle were replaced on
the passenger side with new steel. I have photos of this process when it was done.
The drivers-side sill job was started but did not get beyond cleaning out some of
the rot. Car comes with all the new steel to complete the driver’s side sill
replacement. Also have the fender lower repair panels. Four Rostyle wheels on
the car and at least two spare Rostyle wheels. Half tonneau and tonneau bars.
Some engine spares. Spare 4-sync non-OD gearbox. Plastic front air dam.
Suspension was addressed when first purchased some years ago along with wear
components. The gas tank was replaced at that time along with an SU fuel pump.
If you express an interest in purchasing when here, we’ll dig through my new-
parts stash and see what we can find to go with the car. It’s time to move it along
to the next caretaker. If you want it, you could also have a spare 18V short -block
(and?) a spare windshield. I can probably find a few additional useful, used spares
for this car too. The car was driven into the storage location last fall using a remote
fuel can and gravity feed.
I have a pair of repairable front fenders that can go with this car. I also have
front frame rails and the panel that goes between them salvaged from a chrome
bumper car as I had planned to do a chrome bumper conversion. These parts
would make the conversion perfect if used.
The car is located in west-central Connecticut. If you're interested in taking on
a project like this, talk to me. I'm sure we can find a way for you to take this home.
